Why We Built Mari

A few years ago, I started noticing a pattern in conversations with adult children of aging parents. It often began with some version of the same question:

“I think something is changing with my mom. What do I do now?”

Maybe it’s a missed pill bottle. A forgotten appointment. A phone call that just feels a little off. Nothing dramatic enough to call a crisis—just a growing sense that something is changing, without a clear idea of what to do next.

Who do you call? Is it too soon to worry? What should you be paying attention to? And when does concern become a reason to act?

Families can spend months or even years in this uncertain space. Yet most of the senior care ecosystem is designed to engage them much later, once they’ve decided they need professional help.

That’s the gap we built Mari to help close.

The care journey starts earlier

One of the ideas shaping Mariposa is simple: the care journey doesn’t begin when someone becomes a client of a home care agency. It begins much earlier.

Mari is your AI Care Partner built for those earlier moments, as well as later on..

Mom keeps missing her medications? Mari helps you think through what you’re seeing and what to do next.

Dad seems less steady on his feet? Mari helps you consider what to watch for, what questions to ask and who might be able to help.

Trying to navigate a new medical diagnosis? Mari helps you organize what you’ve learned, think through your questions and consider practical next steps.

Wondering whether it’s time for home care? Mari helps you think through your loved one’s needs and preferences before you ever call an agency.

The goal isn’t to diagnose or make decisions for families. It’s to help them navigate the aging journey with greater confidence.

Bringing that context into care

And when a family does decide it needs professional help, Mari helps connect the dots.

Instead of starting from scratch, the family can bring what it has already shared and learned into the intake process. The agency starts with a better understanding of the family, its needs and what brought them there.

Mari launches with pre-care planning and intake, helping agencies engage and better understand prospective clients and families before professional care begins. Advanced integrations, scheduling and more are coming soon.

Mari doesn’t replace the human relationships at the heart of home care. She helps strengthen them.

One journey

We’ve been asked whether Mari is a consumer product or an agency product.

Our answer is simple: the care journey doesn’t make that distinction, so neither should we.

For families, Mari is an AI Care Partner available through the Mariposa website and mobile app. For agencies, Mari is available through Mariposa Reach and Mariposa Complete.

But the bigger idea is connecting what have traditionally been separate parts of the aging journey.

Families get support earlier. Agencies get better context when professional care begins. And everyone stays more connected around the person at the center of care.

That’s what we mean by connected care—and it’s how we believe families, caregivers and home care agencies can care better together.

And, we are just getting started.
